Description
I did a render of the same scene, with identical lighting, in both the 3Delight render engine and the newer Nvidia Iray render engine. The 3Delight engine render is on top, the Nvidia render is the lower one. I'm amazed at how differently these two engines treat the lights.
The Nvidia render engine seems to give more contrast and more vibrant colors. The 3Delight engine seems to give a more a rounded look. The edges of shadows are softer and more realistic with the Nvidia engine.
On my computer, the 3Delight engine rendered the scene in seconds. The Nvidia engine took about two hours.
I think the two engines would each be better at certain types of scenes. Fascinating.

I prefer the control of light in the first but the second seems more natural !!

I tend to see the top one as being better. I suppose if you changed the lights to work with the NVidia image you could get more control.

There a lot of tricks to using Iray one is try not to add any lights as you would do in 3Delight unless it a mesh light to enhance the figure let the dome rotation set the light and the ground height set the shadows if you have a ground plane .obj change the Iray ground settings to manual and adjust the Y axis to just slightly above the ground plane and adjust the ground shadow settings to an acceptable level. Don't give up on Iray try every adjustments and if you do not have your draw settings set to Iray then you are working with a blindfold

Wonderfully done !
