Description

A comment was made about one of the objects in my upload regarding the eating of the Rose. this layout should help one an all, especially those who have never had the opportunity to serve in the military or have gone camping. so here goes: 1&2: Salt & Pepper - necessary as some cooks REALLY need help in their skills. 3: Upper section of the Mess Kit - designed to keep foods separated (especially if you don't like your mashed potatoes touching your creamed corn) 4: lower section of Mess kit - primary function to assist with cooking or to have your main part of the meal separate from the other items. 5: toothbrush and tooth paste for your after-meal pleasure (especially if you want to get the taste of someone else's cooking experiment out of your mouth...;-} 6: Canteen cup - for coffee (if you dare trust the cook) or water. 7: Canteen - holds one quart of water or your other favorite beverage. (just don't get caught with the other) it will fit inside the cup (#6) 8: water purification tablets - just in case - i tablet per quart and wait 30 minutes. 9: waterproof wind/resistant matches very handy to have. 10: solid fuel stove - coolest or hottest device ever! 11: solid fuel tablets for stove - will boil a cup of water very quickly (3 minutes) 12: P51 can opener, larger version of the standard P38 aka John Wayne can opener. very handy to have, lightweight and easy to use. 13: Mess Can Opener and holder for 14, 15, & 16 (will show a picture of them nested nest upload) 14: Mess Knife for cutting those tough pieces of meat that the cook ruined for you. 15: Mess Fork (you don't want to use your fingers now do you? (out in the field, hmmm, maybe) 16: Mess Spoon - for the collection of the liquid left over from the meal or to stir your coffee... So here is the basic setup for the military and campers. This can fit into a very small section of your pack. I hope that I've have answered any questions and been helpful in some sort of weird way. Now there is a possibility that I might put this scene into the Twilite Zone or the Outer Limits. (just sayin') thank you for all your wonderful comments and faves and I wish everyone a great weekend Mike

From the way you keep referring to the cook's talents (or lack of) I can begin to understand why they call it a MESS kit. Of course in the modern military they have MREs (meals rejected by everyone). Nice display and information. You could write a manual for the Army.

My immediate thought was Faemike55's operating room, but on closer inspection I recognized all the equipment I had for cooking when in the Boy Scouts back in the early 1960s. I still have the knife-fork-spoon set and eat with it for old times sake. Thanks for the pleasant reminder! :-)
