Description

Martin B-26 Marauder " Flak Bait " holds the United States Army Airforce record for the number of bombing missions survived during WWII. She was christened Flak Bait by her first assigned pilot James J Farrell, when he adapted the nickname of a family dog "Flea Bate ". Flak Bait was assigned to the 449th Bombardment Squadron, 322nd Bombardment Group, stationed in Eastern England. During the course of 202 ( 207 if you include 5 decoy missions ) bombing missions over Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, Flak Bait lived up to her name...over 1000 shrapnel holes patched, returned twice on one engine and returned once with one engine ablaze, lost her electrical system once and her hydraulic system twice. She participated in bombing missions on D-Day and during the Battle of the Bulge. Available soon from The Plant.....

Glad to see the plant up and running again, Neil. This plane would not have lasted as long
as it did if you know who was flying it (LOL). Personally, of all the twin engine bombers from
WWII, I have a soft spot for the B-25 not the B-26. I guess seeing "30 Seconds Over Tokyo"
as a kid just kind of made an impression on me that is with me to this very day.

Great going, Neil. I really like the texture map here. So easy to make a new shiny metal map, but a completely different story with a weather worn, scared map. And thanks for the history. As usual, always educational!
Keep up the good work!
:-)

Excellent, Neil!! These look terrific. The metal skin looks great as well. Very nice job. The pilots and crews are raring to get their hands on these.

Looks like a great model. "Flak Bait" is probably one of the kindest names given to a Marauder from what I've read. Rather accident prone early on- until pilots understood their foibles. Tiny wings and big engines. Their unfortunate resemblance to the IJN's G4M "Betty" bomber probably 'did' for them in the Pacific too, so the B-25 got to rule the roost there.
