Description

Thunderbird is the name given to a Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress. She is one of the few surviving flyable B-17s, and is the largest aircraft housed at the Lone Star Flight Museum, located in Galveston, Texas. I was short on time as I wanted to beat the Houston nightmare of rush hour so I did not use my wide angle lens(packed away in my 4Runner). I still was in a torrential downpour for about 30 miles but made it through before the traffic became a problem

You can get the whole history of this B-17 and the entire 303 Bomb Group (H) stationed at
Molesworth, England during WWII. The first pilot of "ThunderBird" was the father of the man
who runs the web site 303rdbg.com, Gary Moncur. A great site for historical and aviation buffs.
This is also where my dad was stationed during the war. Incredible web site (HUGE!)

Excellent photo. The whole plane's length and a lot of detail. Wide angle lens? You tilting the camera proves it's not absolutely necessary!
Keep up the good work!

Great photo of this beauty Richard! I love the B-17!

Never experienced Houston's rush hour, but I got caught in Dallas - Ft. Worth rush hour once. I'm NOT going for a second try... :-P
