Description
Mandy
August 31, 1998 - September 1, 2015
It's hard to let go, but we knew it was time. Mandy turned 17 years old on Monday, and she had gotten so weak that she was having more bad days than good ones.
Putting this collection together was more for me than for you, but I hope you'll enjoy seeing these pictures of Mandy and her travelling lifestyle.
Full view is really big!
Beginning in the top left corner and working clockwise:
Black and white of Mandy relaxing on the dashboard of the motorhome ... one of her favorite spots!
We have these rugs in our Texas house that have ribbons woven in a starburst pattern. She always liked to sleep in the middle of one where the ribbons were thickest.
Mandy was never much of a lap dog up until the past couple of months, but whenever we visited my friend Patricia, who has Parkinson's, Mandy always sat on her lap and let Patricia just hang out with her.
Sleeping in the recliner with Bill was always a favorite spot.
Relaxing under a picnic table at a campground in Joplin, Missouri.
A couple years ago a bunch of us put up a trampoline for our twin grandsons, and Mandy enjoyed walking around on it. She didn't do any tricks, but she was always game for anything!
Bill and Mandy with an old friend in Kansas. Jody was Mandy's groomer for many, many years.
It seems like Mandy knew how nice she looked in that red leather chair.
Last year we did a car-and-hotel trip from Washington to Texas and back, and every night we brought in a cartload of stuff we couldn't leave in the car. Cameras, laptops, coolers, and Mandy. She liked riding on the hotel cart, and always got a lot of attention.
Chillin' with one of our grandsons.
Mandy loved her stroller the first day we got it. We unpacked it, set it up, put her in to see if she would tolerate it, and she got comfy from the first minute. What a godsend. We took her everywhere in that stroller the last 2-1/2 years when she couldn't walk very far. We got a lot of comments, both nice and snarky, and met a lot of people. A cute dog in a stroller is a no-fail conversation starter!
Mandy loved her "couch time" with Bill. Every evening after dinner she would snuggle down between a couple of sofa cushions and take a nap while Bill read a book.
Mandy in high clover in Livingston, Louisiana.
The center shot is one I took on Sunday here in the motorhome in Washington.

I am really sorry for your loss of your sweet Mandy, Tara. She had a wonderful and long life with you and Bill, so that is a big comfort to know and the memories will never die. Now she is in your hearts instead. Some of my family members lost their way younger dog to heavy sickness and they asked me to paint a portrait of him on a stone for them, which I did. Now i am working on a way to protect it from weather.

My thoughts and prayers are with you & Bill

I know what you mean about doing this more for yourself and Bill than for everyone else. I did the same thing when some of mine passed on. And what a lovingly created montage, Tara. I am truly sorry.... I know the pain and loss are great when one loses a furry four-legged kidlin. But as you have shown just a few moments here, you have many years worth of wonderful memories to cherish. My sincerest condolences to you and Bill. Will be thinking of both of you in the coming days and weeks. RIP Mandy.

Oh, I'm so sorry for your lost, dear one, but you did so great here by remembering your lovely Mandy in this fantastic way. From your accompanying words, I can really taste how it was for Mandy, to be entrusted to you and Bill. What a beautiful time she has experienced with you, and I'm sure she was very grateful. The love of Mandy will always be in your heart. Strength in these, surely great change, dear Tara and Bill.

My condolences to you both. I have all my photos of my 3 little ratties in my computer. Some, of particular import to me, I have printed out on the laser copier at work. I got Kitty before my ratties died. Now I dread the day she will go to kitty heaven, though she mat live as ling as Mandy.
I understand your pain of missing Mandy. She looks SO intelligent and lively, I wish I had had the opportunity to have met her.

So sorry to hear about this Tara, though it seems like she lived a long & happy life. We've had to face the same kind of decision at the end of the lives of dearly loved pets in the past & it's never easy, but like you, always made the decision that we thought was in their best interests. She was a real cutie, as your collection of photos demonstrates (& as I remember from the one time I had the pleasure of meeting her)...

My condolences to both you and Bill.
Mandy did indeed reach a mighty old ages. I did a search in google and if i am right according to the calculator that i found online Mandy would be 84 Human years.

What a lovely remembrance. I'd like to print this up and put Mandy on our wall in Texas. Thanks for being such a wonderful "mom" to her:)

Such sad news - she was such a sweetie. I'm so glad I had a chance to meet her in person. She had a good long life, and she'll be waiting for you at that Rainbow Bridge. Jo and I send our deepest condolences to you and Bill.
You really created a lovely remembrance of Mandy, Tara.

I'm so sorry, such a thing is always hard. She was a beautiful four pawed friend.

I know how this works. A picture and a single name is usually bad news. I remember meeting Mandy. She was such a sweet girl. And I've been through this myself. Its almost like losing a child. I'm glad she had such great parents and lived a long and well traveled life. I can imagine all the new sights and smells she encountered on your wanderings. I am very sorry to hear this news. You have created a beautiful memorial to her. In the center image she still looks like a puppy. I think Bill has a fantastic idea.
I came across this recently. Perhaps it will help. "Don't cry because it is over. Smile because it happened."

omg, I've not been on RR, but I see postings, and I just saw this. Omg. I'm terribly sorry that you finally had to do this. It's necessary, you have no choice, but it's always a terribly painful act. But dogs can't go on with infirmity the way we can, they just don't know how...and at some point the human mate has to say, "it's time". I'm so sorry you both had to do this, at last. And for us...everyone here knew Mandy, some actually met her (several people above mention that), and I'm grateful you shared this beautiful joyous montage with us...And the thing is, Mandy went everywhere, I mean she saw things most of us will never see, walked places most of us will never walk, and she probably took it all in with sweetness and gentleness, the way dogs do, just figuring this is the world/this is the infinite journey I was born into...
I always thought dogs were total embodiments of acceptance and love, there's just no other creature like them; and when they pass it's like losing a sibling and a child all in one. I'm so sorry for you and Bill---and Mandy was with Bill from the beginning, I mean she saw everything and for so lon). The "Rainbow Bridge," which at least one person spoke of above, is (as you may know) an idealized place where all dogs go after passing on, to be young and free again, and run and play forever...and they forever wait, patiently, as they did in life, for their human mates to return. Wherever Mandy is, may her light and never-ending love be with you two forever. I'm so sorry, and my blessings to both of you. You're both fortunate to have had her in your life for so long...love and hugs to you both, m
