Description
The Hoary Marmot (or woodchuck, as we called them when I was a kid in Colorado) is a member of the ground squirrel family. This particular species' range is Washington, Idaho, Canada and Alaska. Sometimes they are called whistlepigs because of their high pitched alarm call.
I shot this one in Washington. I am always reminded of being just a little tyke and my Dad teasing me to say 3 times fast:
"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood". :)
Thanks very much for your view and comments.

OMG, I would have shouted "Look at that hairy dog out there! Don't they ever give it a haircut?" if I came upon one of these guys. Masterful capture of the healthy looking critter, Maria.

It's a solid looking little animal, and very cute. A great photo! I remember that tongue-twister too, although I'd not seen a woodchuck till now!

I like the look of this critter; the name "whistlepig" makes me giggle, though. Fantastic shot!
