Description

China and glass recovered in 1988 from the steamboat Arabia that sank in The Missouri River in 1854. Looks pretty good for being under water and mud for 134 years...wouldn't you agree? A lot of this china is Wedgewood and Davenport "Staffordshire" ironstone imported from England. It was headed for the frontier but never made it thanks to a snag in the river that ripped a huge hole in the boat's hull. There was 200 tons of goodies like this neatly packed in wooden crates waiting to be discovered.

I'd love to go back there. I had the T3i when we were there last time, and I think I can get some better shots. THIS shot is great! Terrific use of the available light.

A terrific image. The mud may have helped to preserve them. I saw similar items in the Mormon museum at Cove Fort. I assume these are not for sale.

Wow, I thought this was a presentation in a shop & was wondering who stacked it all. Amazing how it has all survived the sinking & bringing up, super pic. xx

Magnificent capture of the hardy stoneware in this one, Bill. That is a long time in the muck and mire without deteriorating. Almost like finding fossils.
