Description
Steptoe Butte proved the be the grand finale of my stay in Eastern Washington. After one more delay for road work in Colfax I was headed across central Washington through a flat and dry landscape. I was headed towards a place named Lake Tapps to visit my friend Gabriel and his fiancé Heather.
Lake Tapps is a reservoir created in 1911 about forty miles south of Seattle. There is a housing development on an island reached by a short causeway. Gabriel and Heather had purchased a home there just before I came to visit. The house is considered a 'starter home' for the neighborhood but if you walk to the end of their street this is what awaits you. That's Mount Rainier in the distance. Of course, if you live near a lake a boat is a requirement.
Gabriel and I worked together briefly until he was laid off in 2000. In the fifteen years since I think the kid had done pretty well for himself.

Looking a bit closer than my view of the mountain, when it deigns to show itself. Sometimes I envy those who live closer, until I read the reports about the eruption that "could come any day"...I think I'll keep on admiring her from a distance! Lovely shots.

Wow. That's a spectacular view of Rainier! Lake Tapps is a cool place, but they keep draining it. As I recall, they should be just about done with the dam project soon. I hope Gabriel and Heather enjoy this lovely home and that beautiful view for years go come! And with the lake at a decent level! :)

Yeah, he wanted to take me out on his boat but the lake was still filling the week I was there.
