Description
This shelf, which holds a large piece of brain coral, a vase & a small ceremonial urn containing a small part of my father's ashes, is part of a bookcase that stands on a wall opposite our front door. Above our front door is a transom window that lets in sunlight early in the morning. That light illuminates this shelf, which otherwise is surrounded by darkness, every morning. I've been meaning to take a photo of it & finally did...

A family alter of sorts...quite an Asian mood to it in that gorgeous light.

Hi Claude, I'm back for only a couple of comments in each gallery this evening, but when my present commitments are over, I'll be able to do more. I've watched your work every day, and pictures like this are indication of how refined and almost crystalline some of your work has become. Along with a number of shots of real inner tranquility, in addition to your always explosive exploration of light and texture...
I just love how you captured both the deep red/yellow light, as well as the dark framing shadows---esp the "curtain" of shadow on the top, and the deep shadows on the bottom of the objects on this bookcase. With the deep reds and yellows, and the bright emerging forms, it feels very intimate; and like a glimpse into treasures. Also, the contrast of brain coral with the vase is striking---two very different objects in one shot. All against that simple beautiful painted wooden background. A very Claude capture, bathed in intense light and shadow, with your signature rich reds and yellows. (Not to say that you don't have other signature hues, you do.) All with a feeling that, while this is a glimpse, it reveals a very rich world inside. A beautiful photo, Claude. Quite beautiful.
