Description
The Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) is a common North American Butterfly with a wingspan of about 1 inch, so about 1/2 inch in size with both wings folded together.
It never ceased to amaze me how much different and darker their upper wings are compared to the lighter under wings. Both images were taken in the same place and light conditions within 10 minutes of each other.
Thanks very much for your views and comments.

Very nice shot - I especially like the fuzzy texture, the striped antennae & the two orange "eyes"...

This is an amazing capture of this little butterfly, and I guess I've never seen it before. I first thought it was from the common blue family, Maria. Thank you for sharing, my friend.
