Description
The Royal Navy heavy cruiser, HMS Norfolk (78), of the County Class, was among the vessels involved with the sinking of the Kriegsmarine pride and joy Bismark. The Norfolk along with the heavy cruiser HMS Suffolk spotted the battleship trying to make a break for the Atlantic through the Denmark Strait in May of 1941. The Norfolk was also engaged in shelling the Bismark along with the HMS King George, HMS Rodney, and sister cruiser HMS Dorsetshire on the fateful day of the 27th of May when the Bismark's disabled rudder rendered her prey to the Royal Navy's avenging anger.
The following year the Norfolk was assigned duties as much needed protection for the Arctic Convoys against the incessant and successful atttacks of the Luftwaffe and u-boat wolf packs operating in the Atlantic.
The HMS Norfolk has the distinction of being the only Royal Navy warship to engage and participate in the destruction of two German battleships, the Bismark and the Scharnhorst.

Very nice picture. I like the sea and the typical weather around UK. :-)

Oh, missed this one. Great scene. Did it have some pretty war-paint though? Often the ships in the North Atlantic had astonishing graffiti jobs done to them to break up their silhouettes amongst the icebergs ... I only know that because PoW kept her astonishing paint scheme when she detoured to the tropics ... And alas we know how that ended.

Always impressed by your seascapes Bill, this is awsome, the bow wake is so realistic..

5 Très beau travail, il me plaît énormément! 5 PS. My Dad was also on the Battleship 'Scharnhorst' as well, before the U-Boot War (stationated in Larochelle/France)
