Description

I've seen all your images, and you've all made so many bold, sweeping, creative artworks while I've been gone, while I've done nearly nothing visually in that time. So it's hard for me to post, because my work seems somewhat anemic to me. This was from of a series of street photos, studying line and form and the strange presence people have when they're isolated by a camera. I'm not sure if this 'works', but I like it anyway, despite its whited out extremity. I post it just to say I've not been totally idle; and to give one more image before I step down for another break. I'll get to the 2 or 3 of you I've not gotten to, later today. Thanks so much for coming by, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend. With gratitude and joy, Mark (this is best seen full...at least the detail will be clearer...)

I like the boldness of the deep blacks, pure whites & strong grays - I would never describe this as anemic. This could be a shot of any major cosmopolitan city & the woman with the flowing scarf looks like an archetypal city dweller. Would make a great silkscreen, printed very large & hung prominently on a wall...

Anemic would be something with no contrast or interest and no discernible composition. So. Nope! This doesn't qualify. Bzzzzz ... sorry ... but thanks for playing!

LOVE the scarf. For me, it gives the picture that little extra pop. Claude is right ... it's a quintessential city dweller thing. Outstanding image!

deep black and stark white makes this bold and dramatic and then the woman in the scarf warms the scene up and it feels homey all-of-a-sudden. I like this shot and the post-work; well done!

The high-key sort of snowfall feeling really pulls me in (I love that sort of thing, as you know), and the layers of lines (the drawing effect) getting heavier as it gets to the bottom gives it a real sense of satisfaction for me. A wonderful image, beautifully and sensitively worked, Mark. You're better than you give yourself credit for!

She's a woman! High key in a rather subtle manner of the gal, possibly unaware that she was being recorded, striding casually down the Chicago avenue, and wearing a coat, pants and scarf? I'm sitting here wasting away in the 88 degree heat (it's 112 F in my patio) in just my shorts and she's clad, seemingly comfortable, in those stuffy clothes? She has to be kidding. But I digress. Her hair really stands out against the dark tree trunk behind her. Another one of your highly articulated and contrasted adventures into the genre of black and white, my friend.

Beautiful street photo, the woman walking alone seems closed in thought. The environment of greater strength to the concept as representing a cold from which he wants to stay away. The warmth of his thoughts seems the only thing that interests her. A beautiful picture really !!!!

She carries herself so elegantly, full of confidence and strongly upright - as if she is serenading herself, to that particular (1975) Helen Reddy song, 'I am woman - hear me roar in numbers too big to ignore' (or just ignoring the cold!) ... well Mark, that was my first impression when I spotted her, braving the snowy and icy conditions of your hometown - the contrasts are so refreshing to see and give this image a well balanced and 'clean look' ...

I adore this one, as much as the 'brown' (night city pic, you had send me) . Both have something in common, which make me simply happy and side by side they would look fabulous together - like 'Night & Day' or 'Yin & Yang'

(in Chinese philosophy and religion) two principles, one negative, dark, and feminine (yin) and one positive, bright, and masculine (yang) whose interaction influences the destinies of creatures and things.

Thank you for sharing this with us, you always surprise me with displays of your new artworks - it's magical !
