Description

If I posted each of these images separately, I'm quite sure many of you would start finding your own rocks and throwing them at me! LOL! However, the lava at Craters of the Moon was formed into such a wide variety of shapes and textures, I didn't want to cheat you out of any of it. :P For those of you who love rocks and textures and the subtleties of nature's abstract compositions, I've left this REALLY big. Each image is only a touch smaller than I would have posted them if I'd done them individually. And RR's new unlimited file size (as long as the image is less than 4000x4000) means I could post this with enough clarity to make it worth your while to zoom. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve encompasses about 400 square miles of lava fields. This is such a visual adventure! No wonder you took so many photos, I should be doing the same It's still amazing to think what a huge variety of structures and textures can be produced by heating and cooling rock!

I'm sure any of these could have stood alone & made a very interesting geological abstract, but I understand your reluctance to post them that way. I'll definitely pay a visit if I find myself in Idaho again...

These rocks of Lava are quite impresive looking. Some of them look like tar. Wonderful shots all of them. :-)
