Description

Taken during a short hike several days ago in a volcanic lava field at Craters of the Moon National Monument near Arco, Idaho. Best estimates of the age of this flow is 2,100 years. This entire area is surrounded with large cinder cones that have been dormant for centuries. However volcanologists believe that they could once again become active at sometime during the next 1,000 years. We got out of there fast:-)

This is really interesting, showing stuff that manages to grow there, and with the mountains a safe distance away!

Isn't that where the supposed "supervolcano" lies in wait underground to decimate the whole continent? I'm guessing if that's the case getting out of there wouldn't be enough should it decide to erupt! Wonderful shot of this lava flow!

Looks exactly like a stack of cold charcoal embers after a barbeque, Bill. Great ambiance in this photograph.

A 1,000 years you say? Well, there goes my plans for the weekend. I really like the POV on this with the mountains in the distance. Great DOF.
