Is this really a photo? However, it is a very nice image.

well mostly, sure. Sky I took six weeks or so ago. This is an image of a steel bearing that I took with slow light. Then I took multiple images of the same timed to catch it when a drop of water hit it using fast light to freeze the drop. I "stacked" the drop shots with zerene software and did some photoshop to composite the images together and to clean up the water drop and steel bearing (damned thing moved with each impact, but I didn't realize it till late in the process - or I would have planted the damn thing).

this is really really fascinating. and whilst i read your explanation of how you put this together, i shall always feel in my heart of hearts that you're the Bug Guy. [hehe]
and having said that, before reading your explanation i was wondering if p'raps it was some insect's sac, even though the shape is by far not nearly organic in shape enough. but it did put me in mind of whenst i was a kid and how i'd run about collecting spider eggs in jars. one memory, of many strong memories revolving around my insect loves, is whenst i took a sac from its jar, gently disengaged it from the small twig it had been attached to, and set the sac on the back of my hand. i do not know if by doing so i tore the sac, or if the heat of my hand promoted this, or it was just incredibly great timing, but suddenly there were all these tiny pinpoints of translucent life crawling all up and down my arms, little feet and legs tickling at the hairs there, and i felt so incredibly overwhelmed with joy o'er the whole experience, almost as if it had been me who had given birth. and yes, i realise just how very odd that may sound, but it all just felt so sacred in a way. thank you so very much Giana for sharing this. I have a very goofy twisted smile right now, from ear to ear!!!
