Description
At present I am totally immersed in re-reading some of my favorite Arthurian novels. So I had to dig through my CD's to find this shot of Cadbury Castle, in Somerset, southwest UK. This ancient hillfort is believed by some to have been the site of King Arthur's legendary Camelot.
To have been able to see Tintagel, where Arthur was born, Camlann, where he died, as well as Stongehenge and many other ancient sites on my 2008 trip was absolutely Number 1 on my bucket list. And to be able to walk all over this famous site was an "Okay, I can die now" moment.
I wish I had stepped further back and gotten a larger view or perhaps taken two or three shots and made a panorama. But excitement and emotion overshadowed all good sense that afternoon. This is only about one quarter of the expansive hilltop. Google Cadbury Castle if you're curious and look at the aerial views to see how large it is. It's huge.
Thank you very much for your views and comments.

My absolute favourite historical timespan too; I still have a pretty large collection of Arthurian historical fantasy that I reread often. But I still haven't been to this particular piece of Britain yet...gorgeous capture!

A magnificent image Maria, this is only 45 minutes by car from where I live. Have driven past as I have Stonehenge many times but have never set foot on either of them.

what an excellent shot. I am so jealous (but happy) you got to see those places.

Well, you could have fooled me, I thought this was deep in the heart of Texas. Stellar cloud effects, light and shadow contrast, and love the verdant rolling terrain in this cool panorama, Maria. All that's missing are Richard Harris and Vanessa Redgrave.
