Description
Captured back on 8/3/11, during my last visit to the beautiful Aquarium of the Pacific, in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Yes, besides denizens of the deep seas, the aquarium also features such cool avians as lorikeets, puffins, penguins, and ruddy ducks. What with the lack of birds in my area, one has to drive several miles in order to see a good variety of them, albeit captive.
Small cups of nectar can be purchased at the compound gate to feed the little guys.
Lories and lorikeets (tribe Loriini) are small to medium-sized arboreal parrots characterized by their specialized brush-tipped tongues for feeding on nectar of various blossoms and soft fruits, preferably berries. The species form a monophyletic group within the parrot family Psittacidae.

They are such pretty birds. There is a bird called a Painted Bunting that looks similar to this in color. I have only seen one about 30 years ago from afar, and have never seen one since, so it's still on my Bucket List. Nice shot, Harry.
