Eastern Box turtle - Endangered. This is a male - red eyes, the females have brown eyes.
If you save one crossing the road - place it on the other side in the woods heading in the same direction it was heading. They know what direction they were heading and don't like to be confused..

i've always thought that boxes look very Victorian, with their stern countenances and aristocratic features. and everytime i see one, i want to put tiny powdered wigs on them... [giggle]
