Goods heavens, these guys are skinny.
The gerenuk /ˈɡɛrɛnuːk/, Litocranius walleri, also known as the Waller's gazelle, is a long-necked species of antelope found in dry thorn shrubland and desert in the Horn of Africa and the African Great Lakes region. The word gerenuk comes from the word in the Somali language, Garanuug, meaning "giraffe-necked". Gerenuk are sometimes also called the giraffe-necked antelope. It is the sole member of the genus Litocranius.

These two never faced us humans during the time I was there, tending to ignore us instead, so I never got a good frontal shot of them.
Au revoir.

great pic and info. my first thought was DO NOT SHOOT. They are too skinny to have any meat on their bones, and not enough hide for a decent pair of boots. lol. a good shoy. I can see why they are called a long neck.

I saw these at either the FW or Dallas zoo. They are beautiful creatures even if you couldn't get them to face you, Harry.

I can hear the one saying to theother. " Dont pay any attention to the rude people there, staring at us all the time. Just pretend they aint there" Love this shot and your story Harry :)

Built for speed, I think; you'd have to be, out in that hostile environment. Excellent shot of their backsides, Harry!
