You know, when you posted this, I zoomed and immediately thought of the religious paintings of the Middle Ages. Almost Byzantine. I mean, it's clearly not Medieval; and, while there's a church-like background, it's devoid of any religious symbolism. But that full frontal face, staring at us fearlessly, reminds me of some of the great Medieval icons of saints, Mary, etc. (Ravenna comes to mind. This woman has that frontality, that unwavering stare. She has an iconic pull on the viewer. And the background, filled with Medieval detail---which always had religious undertones---adds to that iconic sense. Also, the gold/platinum patina to her hair adds to the sense of religious symbolism. I may be the only one to say this, but I can't help but feel it.
In any case, she looks like a princess---she's got on the garb of a warrior, and she stares as one who is comfortable with power, and afraid of no one. Your detail in the hair is first rate, as is your lighting and texture in the skin. And as always, you use backgrounds in consummate ways; and the purple of the background is a nice foil to her flesh and platinum head. A striking piece, Bob, that hits us square in the eyes. Fine portraiture.
