Description

Acrylics on A4 cartridge paper, December 1992 This was the starting image for a lino-printmaking project in my A-Level Art course at school. Bloody hated lino printing, but I enjoyed doing this! Again the school wanted to keep it for their archives (along with everything else - what do they want, blood?) but my mother persuaded them to part with it, and it's been hanging framed in our lounge ever since. It scanned through the glass really well, but I still had to go retouching out all the little bugs that had found their way in there... It was copied from a photo in a book, and I wanted to mix Impressionistic styling in the background with more realistic rendering in the foreground. The reflections on the right aren't accurate, but hey ho... The unfortunate thing was that my grandfather, who was a great traditional artist and could never understand the weird stuff I used to draw and paint, died only a couple of weeks or so before I did this - I know that had he been able to see it he'd have said something like "ah, that's more like it". My timing wasn't too good here... Thanks for looking all :-)

Well I'm not exactly branching out - remember this was 10 years ago. Maybe you could say I branched out some time ago then stayed put :-)

beautiful work, even though it's from a previous time in your life- you make me think I should pull out the ole portfolio & dig thru the trunks for old work to digitally reviatilize- yeah, I'll put that on the list of things to do in spare time- hehe- anyway, much enjoying your gallery...onward! :)

I wish you would revisit this traditional approach as I would love to wallow in the results, yet, that's being selfish ;) You follow the road you find is the best for you as true originality can only come from within you :) hugest hugs Man I love this though!!!!!!!!! Very reminicent of Kakadu National Park ;)
