Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Really can't compare this graceful bird to the other bird of prey (on Flickr) and it's interesting information !
Thanks for sharing !

A graceful beauty!

Beautiful color and detail. It does look a little lonely. The cormorant looks rather stern.

He's a beautiful young thing! Surprising coloring and no awkward ugly ducking look about him. Lovely shot!

well I said I was just gonna do 1 today, but I lied. I couldn't leave without doing another. In fullest view, this is quite commanding; and your dark textured river makes an almost tapestry for the bird; and, then again, a sheet of textured glass with the cygnet's reflection darkly cast underneath. The beautiful sweep of the neck and long body is so nicely set off by the deep dark water. I assume you postworked the water to this beautiful dark hue and texture. (If you caught it this way, bravo as well.) The cygnet stands out majestically from it. Beautiful shot, and I like that all you gave us was bird and water: Nothing else is needed. Wonderful.
(Do you know Shakespeare's King John? It has one of the most beautiful quotes about cygnets. When John's son---Prince Henry---is by his father's deathbed, Henry says:
I am the cygnet to this pale faint swan / Who chants a doleful hymn to his own death / And from the organ-pipe of frailty sings / His soul and body to their lasting rest...
Prince Henry is speaking of his poisoned father in the most doleful, sweet tones...and he compares himself to the delicate child ((cygnet)) while his father is "this pale faint swan". It's such beautiful poetry, and I can't see a cygnet without thinking of those beautiful words.)

They are a beautiful bird and this stands out well against the dark water.
