Description

Painted with Acrylic on an old phone book page. Thats what I do also, when I cannot find time for more serious painting. Have a great weekend. Grey weather but mild and peaceful. Thank you for viewing and commenting. :-)

Oh my, is this beautiful, Helle-vriend. How is that possible to paint it on an old phone book page, I wonder. Maybe in Denmark they use thicker papers; but anyway you did it, and I admire you for this, Helle!!!

First of all, we're gonna have to get you accustomed to the fact that pieces like this are serious painting! And on a page from a phone book??? That's très serious, madame! (And btw: You have a phone book??? I thought they stopped printing those when Google took over the universe!) Remember those paintings I sent you, with newspapers in them? (Picasso and Braque?) Well, this is why I say you do more with print than they ever did. The phone-book page blends in as part of the background, and gives a subtle frame work for the whole. On top of it, you did a truly luminous painting of those blooms---your pinks on whites jump off the page. And you used strong brushwork, making it look like oil, almost. The leaves are pure Helle, with a mix of nature painting and imagination: Ie, even if they're from a photo, I can see your swirly playful imagination at work. As it is in your typical background hues: Deep aqua blues, greens, some yellows, deep reds, and pinks against blues, etc: That's a true Helle background. Beautiful work, Helle. If this ain't "serious," madame, then I'm a circus clown!

(And btw: I hope Per was through with the freakin' phone book! If not, you're gonna hear a scream: "HELLE?????? What did you do to my PHONE BOOK???") (Only in Danish...) I'll keep that in mind if you ever visit here: "Helle's coming??? Hide everything! She'll paint over the damned whole house!")

Darn! anahata.c took the words right out of my mouth. I was going to say essentially the same thing. Oh well, I'll think of something. With this phone book cover, I can see now that you'll use anything to paint on. Unbelievable. But I digress. A luverly acrylic image of bright flowers and their attendant leaves in this Helle masterpiece, Helle. And who is Per, your hubby?

Breathtaking work, Helle; I can't believe you do this on a phone book! You know someday this work will be unearthed by an art paleontologist, and they'll be convinced there's a secret message hidden in the painting, and whole universities will be devoted to decoding your message!

How do we know this is not serious? When it's serious, do you frown while you paint? Tell the cats to stop messing around, that you're doing serious painting? How would we know that, just looking at the painting? This looks like serious painting to me. Oh, I know! Maybe it's the translation. Maybe in Danish, "serious" means something different than it does in English. I have one of your "not serious" paintings. We had it framed, it was so good. :) You should do a series of these ... use up the entire phone book! The paper you've used only adds to the unique beauty of this painting.

Do you know John Coltrane? He was a famous jazz saxophone player. Once he went into the studio to record, and produced an amazing, spare, fresh sound. It was just him on the sax, a drummer, and the bass player. The piece had called for a piano, and without the piano part, the recording was revolutionary. Jazz critics the world over raved about Coltrane's vision, his willingness to go out on a limb artistically, and the album was a huge success. Later, someone interviewed Coltrane and asked him about the lack of piano on the album. What was his idea, his motivation, for recording the album in such a way?

"The piano player didn't show up," he replied.

Art is art, dear friend, and you are amazing. Even when the piano player doesn't show up, what you do is absolutely fantastic, and beyond what most of us dream of doing!
