Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

well for a spider, the lady in waiting may be a 'hot catch', but as a human, I'll have to pass. Sorry, I get a little skittish once the number of legs go over "2"...but this is a dramatically lit spider, whose legs seem transparent, and dangling on a mere two threads, with its other legs suspended in pure space. I love that suspension! And with the light on top, it's like he's moving towards the light. In Native American cultures, the female spider is a symbol of wisdom, as "Spider Woman" is a character in many peoples' lore, and she's wise, and she's powerful. So maybe this male has to put on a good show to get her attention. Wonderful capture, Andrea, it feels like a high wire capture, and all that dark really brings out the spider's beautiful highlights.

What we males won't do for love! As superb as this is the one of the lady is brilliant. I love the light on her web. I was listening to Public Radio yesterday where someone was talking about spiders. The female will spin her web which can include pheromones to attract the male.
Since Mark brought up Native Americans, I thought I'd mention Native Africans. Among the Ashanti people of Ghana this handsome fellow is known as Kwaku Anansi, Kwaku being the Akan word for spider. He is a trickster and champion of the people.
