Description

Life is the time that we are allowed to enclose in a precious golden cage our memories and experiences. Then we have to go down like in a carousel and leave our place to others.

at the end of Fellini's 8 1/2 (Otto e mezzo), all the people in Guido's life dance in a magic circle, bringing Guido's memories to life, and giving Guido closure and redemption. It's a carousel, in a way. And at the end of Fellini's Amarcord, a blind accordionist plays in a windswept landscape, as people ride away into the distance...Your image, here, reminds me of both of those scenes. You have an impeccable sense of the mythic, Giuliano; and this woman evokes the memories of a life, broken into gold sashes. It's a stunning symbol of our enshrined memories.

And you have a vast landscape, nostalgic and covered with mist...and a big lavish carousel, a sunken television, a childhood teddy bear, books, etc. (Wonderful, old volumes...) You even have a train, as if it's taking people away, perhaps to death, or perhaps it's carrying our lost relatives or loves or friends. And the background is sunken in fog, as memory is. And you have a clothes rack, part of the present. The woman is in front, as if standing in front of her life. And the image has a feeling of nostalgia, reaching for something beyond our grasp. There's beauty in that woman's gold memories, something that stands above the 'shards' of our lives, something that glows.

As in all your art, this conjures many emotions. It has mythic images. Fellini would have approved of this scene, and his accordion players would fit right into it. It's bleak yet full, and very haunting. Beautiful and haunting, and expertly done---as is all your work. First rate.

Ottimo lavoro.

Outstanding work, Giuliano. It reminded me of a song by Benny Hill. Benny Hill was an English comedian and song writer. This is from his most popular song. It looks at life as a carousel. The ride only lasts for a time and then ends. “Oh please let me go ’round again.”

GO ‘ROUND AGAIN- Benny Hill

“Lord, can I go ’round again? Please can I go ’round again? Oh, I can’t believe that I’ll never see Your sky or your trees again. Oh, the girls and the wine and the living were fine, I shouldn’t complain but then, You give damned short rides on this carousel, Lord, Oh please let me go ’round again.”

Eccellente lavoro, Giuliano.

GO AROUND AGAIN- Benny Hill

Yes, we all sit in the carousel of life and at some point the ride is over. You've shown this perfectly in your picture. Outstanding composition.
