Description

The colored light streaming through one of the stained glass windows at St. Vitus Cathedral created an amazingly radiant pattern on the adjacent wall. I've visited many cathedrals in Europe, but this was as awe-inspiring a sight as I've seen. My photo doesn't do it justice, but this is the best I could do...

as far as your photo not doing 'justice', some light is just impossible to capture with a camera. But this is stunning, even if it's not all you saw with the naked eye: The right wall is an apparition, like a ghost fireworks. It's almost underwater in feel, or like blazing lights on a huge sheet of metal. The designs from the stained glass seem to be etched right into the stone---amazing. And your shot is bathed in deep shadows, to bring forth (by contrast) the two huge splashes of window/reflection. You have an innate eye for light in bright and dark places: This glows, and we really do feel the transformation of light on a stone wall. Wonderful.

I've seen photos like this before, but never one exactly like this one. You've captured a truly beautiful moment. Whenever stained glass windows cast their light upon a wall, it's almost like an ethereal glamour. You've caught more of that magic than I ever did when I tried similar things.

Thank you so much for sharing this picture!!

You have done beautifully; some magic can't be conveyed by a photo, it has to be experienced. Brilliant capture!

In Denise's interview for the RR magazine (did you see it?) she said something like, "if I couldn't fall in love with the light every day, life wouldn't be worth living." That was the general idea, anyway. Bill and I have mentioned that several times since, because it's true ... we fall in love with the light nearly every day, at some point or another. This is the ultimate falling in love with light, to my mind. It's absolutely stunning. Not being a believer in much of anything, this is the closest thing to a religious experience I can imagine. Wow.

You have captured a most impressive set of images of the windows in this cathedral. The light here is absolutely magical, as your title states. A most enjoyable series and and joy to view.
