Description


Down this path in the flood plain, across the Opequon Creek we go one hundred and fifty three years into the past to The Bower. Here Dandridge sells his five year old mare to General Stuart. Stuart gives the mare to broken handed Lee who rides her for two years until she got with foal. After the war she was stolen and later found, recovered and returned home to Lee by his son. She lived until the spring of 1891 - oh, the things she must have seen.

hi ACue, yeah, I can see what you mean. I recently found out the history that took place a short walk from where this picture was taken, hence the text.. The irony that my dog is shaking water from a creek that general Lee's horse Lucy Long grew up next to. a couple of hundred yards upstream.
