Description

A real treat for you today ! Mucilago crustacea. I was so excited to see this one, the first time I've noticed it. "The fruiting body matures through yellow to become white, its interior finally blackening with age. The newly emerged plasmodia resembles a dog?s vomit on the grass but within 24 hours the calcareous cortex has hardened and the black spore mass has matured." I have seen the yellow Dog Vomit Slime Mould, Fuligo septica, before, but not this one. I was thrilled! Here is a photo of the other sort

I would never have known it wasn't dog sick! Nature is truly quite surprising sometimes!

ditto denise, except the 'crystalline' formations suggest it isn't from a dog. An astonishing sight---it looks like crystals formed in a lab, or something formed via some natural process where crystals coagulate. I've never seen anything like it in nature. And the flickr shot? Whoa...what a sight. So yellow too---I'd do a double take if I came across it on a walk. Both pics are detailed, and you got the whole mass---amazing sights and shots. Thank you for continually bringing these wild primal growths to us: I have nothing but to learn. I know nothing about this part of nature...

Very interesting, though the title is kind of a turnoff. Even if it does look like a dog threw up a bowl of rice...

Fascinating information. I thought someone had dropped a bowl of grits. The flickr image is the more extravagant but then the rotting wood is half the attraction.

It certainly seems to be well named. I like the textures though. Interesting shot and 'woohoo' on seeing it for the first time!
