Description
I had several goals in mind for this image. First, I wanted to take Genesis3 for a spin so I posed her in DS and dropped it into ZBrush to do a little sculpting to the face to match a photo reference and create the hair and eyebrows. Then off to Keyshot for materials and lighting. I mainly concentrated on finding a workable skin material.
I like this one the best so far. (The base texture is the generic G3F, RyJeane set.)
I also wanted to get a handle on the eye surface material as I was really unhappy with what I'd been using. The glass shaders were rendering the iris parts too dark or too bright and really just looked like taxidermy eyes. So I dug in and looked to some rather technical websites. This led me to try a more advanced material that allowed inside/outside refraction (dialectric). I really like what I found here. It strikes me as a nice compromise between taxidermy glass and "fake" reflection maps.
Next was trying out Keyshot's lights (as opposed to just HDRI). This is just simple 3 point light with a low brightness HDRI for ambience. I think this is the first time I've gotten a rim light to work the I wanted to. In the research for that, I stumbled upon a photography sight that had great details about studio lighting that I really want to play around with.
The next item I wanted to work on was the hair material. Zbrush bridges FiberMesh to Keyshot with a leather material as default, which is used here. It's okay, but far too plastic-looking and lacking in color dynamics. After more research on more technical sights, I've found some information that led me to use a metal paint shader to get a more interesting look. It allows for two specular parameters as well as use of textures to create more interesting color distribution. (The leather one is basically a two-color shader as spots.)
I'm rendering out a close-up of this same character right now and the metal paint material has real promise. A few more experiments and I think I'll have a shader I can work with consistently.
Chastity bit was flipped to protect the innocent from finding out we're all naked under our clothes!!!!

Any way, that's more rambling than this simple image deserves. Thanks for looking! Everyone have a great weekend and if you liked this render, watch later for the close-up portrait.

Excellent work! The eyes came out beautifully. Skin tone also looks very good. Looks like your hard work and study are paying off brilliantly.

Fabulous portrait my friend... WOnderfully done !

Great info. I especially like the use of the metal paint shader for the hair. It gives it a nice wet effect.

Keep up with your RnD. You are making progress. Hair to me is way off. Specular material should help. Also you want to try a bit of smoothing in Zbrush for the hair.

Beautiful portrait.

Super creation.

Great face, and interesting to see the details of your procedures!

Great looking, and very realistic face. I've really been wanting to try Zbrush for such things and seeing this helps me pull the trigger on getting it.
