I love the whimsy of this...the pub feels like an old English pub, nestled into the tight twisty streets of old London...and yet here it is, sitting in the middle of the prairie, with a pre tornado sky, or (at least) a late day sky with a storm due soon. I'm from the midwest, so know these skies---this is the "deep Midwest meets Dickens’ London". Love the detail on the pub, and the skewed architectural lines, suggesting a cartoon version of it. Lots of shadow on the facade, which is where expect light---nicely done. The bushes/weeds in front are a nice frame to the piece too (thinking photographically, I see). And these lit-up jaundiced clouds speak of a pretty spooky something-to-come. With the woman in darkness and a lone horse, it's a desolate prairie scene, imaginative and well conceived. And the smoke from the two chimneys is like some strange silk weaving its way out of the image. Very well done.
