Description

This crop is growing by leaps and bounds here in Kansas. There are several gins here in the State and my understanding is that cotton brings in a good return, This field is not to far from here, and I have watched the crop from tiny seedlings right through to this stage. The flowers are pretty when the plant blooms, and the pods are downright beautiful before (and after) they burst open. I am going to try growing some in a tub next summer just to see if I can. Thanks for taking a look!

Cool photo - I've heard how flat Kansas is but never really realized it until this photo. Now to be a wise guy: remember to leave room in the tub so you can bathe. Sorry couldn't resist.

Very nice looking capture! PS. Reminds me 1944, when my dad (a german sub-marine soldier) became a prisoner of war in the US (catched in north Africa), he has to work in the cotton fields in South Carolina & he was quite happy there!!!!

Looks exactly like what I saw the other day just outside my small town. Looks like it's nearly harvest time - nice shot.

Great capture. The fields in Kansas look just like the fields in Arizona, except we don't have bushes in between the fields. Cotton requires a lot of water, and the world market is fickles. In the 1980's when we at the AZ Department of Water Resources verified grandfathered groundwater rights applications, it was nothing unusual when the farmer claimed 6-ft of water to grow the crop, and by harvest time the world market was depressed and the Federal Government paid him to plow the crop under. To become more efficient farmers could laser-level their fields, line the ditches that channeled the water to the fields and other means to reduce water use, but those things cost a lot of money. In return, cotton did not always bring in enough money to bring him a profit.
