Description
I'm posting this totally unaltered except the resizing. I used a 2b pencil for the details and overlaid the shadows with a 4b. I take an art class (basic design) and this was part two of the assignment which was to take a photo and copy it, then abstract it. I'll post the abstraction next.
I'm not one of those newbies who doesn't know what constructive criticism is so hit me with it :)

Well, obviously you're not a newbie. Okay, here it goes: Did you use a grid when copying a photo, or did you just dive right in thinking nobody would be able to tell? Some subtle values around the nose would be helpful. It's really difficult to tell though since the scanner does bad things to pencil drawings. Check the proportions of the back or the head. This might be better than it appears as well...could be the scan again. The main problem is that it doesn't look like you used a grid to keep the facial features aligned. I know this is tedious, but you've got too much talent to cut corners like that.

Yes, I'm afraid this was done without a grid. I used a light table to jot down a few markers but unfortunately the right eye managed to wander closer to her nose than in the photo. I'm new only to the facets of actual design; I've drawn my whole life. That's a double edged sword sometimes.
