Description

Lux could barely believe her eyes; it was bad enough that drow infested the forest, now it seemed the locals were welcoming them! She’d slipped through the Elven Court undetected, heading southwest from her home in Elventree toward Harrowdale, but when she crossed the river Duathamper she thought that she’d be clear of their territory. Yet there they were; a female drow and a male human, both seemingly quite pleased with the other’s company. Moving closer to their camp, she felt the nip of the early spring night’s chill; she’d seen the fire from some distance away and had hoped to join their camp for the night, but now she just wanted to get close enough to hear what schemes they were hatching. Inching forward through the brush with little more sound than a breeze, she suddenly realized that the man was missing. “Can we help you?” Lux spun to see Coren standing over her, unarmed, but with a confident stance despite the bow she held, arrow knotted and ready. Then she noticed the silver amulet hung around his neck; the eyes and stars of Selune. “You serve the Moonmaiden,” she announced more then asked with a relieved tone, knowing that no one with evil at heart could bare the goddess’ symbol without suffering her wraith. “And you serve Mielikki,” Coren observed, noting the silver unicorn’s head symbol of the Forest Queen hung at her throat, and then invited with a smirk; “It’s a chilly night, perhaps you’d like to join us?” Nodding her acceptance, Lux moved slowly ahead of him into the clearing, returning the arrow to her quiver as a sign of her peaceful intent, while Coren gestured to Sabrae that all was well. “Who are you and what are you doing out here alone?” Coren asked as they all settled down around the fire, with Sabrae close at his side, all but in his lap. “I’m Lux… Luxana Miir,” she began, eyeing the strange couple curiously. She’d heard tales of female drow that worship a good goddess in the woods of Harrowdale, but this one didn’t look like a priestess and her clothes seemed more suited to a city than the woodlands. “I came through the Court from Elventree to see how far the drow had spread, but I didn’t expect to find any south of the Duathamper.” “You crossed the Court alone!?!” he challenged in surprise; admiring her courage, but questioning her wisdom. There were literally thousands of drow scattered across the vast area left nearly abandoned during the Retreat, and they’d made their presence felt in many of the dales with brutal, unprovoked attacks. “That’s nearly suicidal!” “The drow may hold elven lands,” she retorted smugly, “but they still know little of the forest’s ways. I slipped past them unnoticed… but they’ve turned many of the abandoned elven estates into armed camps.” Then, still eyeing Sabrae with suspicion, she inquired; “What are the two of you doing out here?” “That’s quite a tale,” Coren replied, glancing down at Sabrae, who looked back at him with a wicked grin.
