Description

I don't know how many people who view my work knew about what happened last month in a 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant in Hong Kong. ...No one paid any attention to a middle-aged woman with short black hair and black-framed glasses, dressed in a gray jacket and slippers, who, at 8:39 a.m. one Friday, sat down at a table near the bathroom. Early Saturday, at 1:20 a.m., the woman abruptly slumped over. Other patrons remained unconcerned, as they indulged in a late night snack. At last, later on Saturday morning and a full day after the woman’s arrival was caught on CCTV cameras, a customer approached her. She was cold, the police were called: the woman was already dead. Died alone in a crowded restaurant. Dead for hours before ANYONE notices. -------------------------- Thinking about this, I set out to my favorite people watching spot -The Commoms. I apologize for the rough WIP of this piece. I did it rather quickly because I didn't want to draw the attention of any of Boston's boys-in-blue. There has been a lot of crackdowns on the homeless in the Commons and the South Station that's forcing people to migrate to surrounding areas like the Waterfront or Back Bay. That is where I found Him. He was tucked back from the elements pretty well so I almost didn't see him. I just about stumbled over him and our eyes met for a brief moment before he closed them again and tugged his threadbare jacket tighter to himself. I must have looked like shit, I guess he thought I was looking for a place to crash too. I was glad he was just asleep. ...this time Thank you pausing long enough to look and maybe leave a word of encouragement. ~yO
