Chilling weather does seem to encourage bud development, perhaps awakening an urgency to flower before a killing frost.

The ice storm finally did in my petunias....poor little things. My roses had already set hips and gone dormant. Beautiful shot!

I didn't know that about roses...but I'd believe it, since they seem awfully sturdy...this is a shot of a few buds and lots of leaves, and it's scraggly rough-hewn feel makes it primal. Very sweet shot, Richard, showing the rose not being opulent---as it most often is captured---but being a survivor; prickly and defiant. And I like your carpet of colors in the background. Like a bokeh'd abstract expressionist painting.

Well who would have guessed !

Looks like this one is hanging on till the " fat lady sings" ( not to be offensive in any way) just a saying !

What perfect shot of the bud and ice droplets on the leaves.
