Description

One stormy day two lovers quarreled arguing their love away but their dream was to dance across a gentle sky filled with roses to feel the soft petals caress them to inhale the intoxicating scent to remember the joy they once felt to know where love went. Because dreams often come true for those who believe true love never really goes away one day when the lovers cried the storm clouds and sky turned the softest hue of pastel peach and pink creamy white, and yellow, too and then a very magical sight the sky filled with roses bathing the lovers in healing light. And when the lovers looked above these special roses shed tears when love died tears that turned into snowflakes gently caressing their face with soft delicate flakes that melted the coldness in the lovers hearts so much so they embraced remembering how much they truly cared and together they began a snow rose ballet dancing their way to love. Snow Rose Ballet prose by Carol Cavalaris © Credits: A ballet of love across a rose filled sky. From Brigitte's Rose Collection, this art was inspired by Brigitte's rose garden in France, her beautiful snow ballet roses, and her love for ballet. Created in Photoshop and Poser, using rose photos, ballet dance pose by Ilona, and painting techniques. Hope you enjoy. :o) CC Copyright Notice: My images do not belong to the public domain and may not be used for any purpose without my permission. I'm sorry, Carol, that I fell 3 images behind...I like to give plenty of time to your work, and I couldn't do that the way I wanted, this week. I'll comment on this tonight, and get to the other two this weekend, or soon after.

Your poem is about love but also love lost, and then love regained. And you use lots of varying rhyme and line length too; and assonance (vowel rhyme like "snowflakes...face...flakes..." or "snow rose," etc); and other poetic elements. And ending a long line with a short (the end of the poem), or repetitions like "to" in the last 4 lines of the first stanza. (If you're interested, this is called "anaphora," and you can see a prime example of it if you look up Shakespeare's Sonnet 66. Lines 3 through 12 all begin with "and"---something Shakespeare never does in his other sonnets.) There's lots of poetic language here, expressing love sought, love struggled for, andlove gained. I know these themes mean a lot to you, and your poem is a very gentle introduction to that, as well as to your image. And, as you do in your imagery so often, their love seems to create all these passionate states in nature, to where the flowers empathize visibly, as does everything else.

The flowers are filled with undulating lines, swirling like flames---something you do with great sensuality in your work. And they pile down, or up, like they cascaded out of the sky. You have whites here, but you have as many cream-whites, a very rich white, mixed with yellows, peach hues, and pale reds. The lightness of your reds suggest delicacy (in a way that full or deep reds never could). And the surrounding is a sea of galactic star-stuff, with lights and swirls and whirlwinds, all forms that arise out of love (and which I know you feel). And the ground of the image is more flowers and leaves, like a sea down there. And the top is a blast of dissolving light---another thing you do in various of your images, like a big light shining down on your images---here, shining on the couple, and seeming to light the whole image. But there's the feeling that it's the lovers who brought on the light---they're what made it happen...That's how it feels to me, at least.

As for the couple, you got a ballet pose for sure---both dancers are in sync, reaching backwards to take in the heavens. Ballet does miraculous things with the human body (at a cost to the dancers, man do they torture themselves to do this beautifully). They're perched on a rose which is powerful enough to hold them; and they're the true center of the image, even though those roses are as powerful as they are. And that's the thing---you've melded them, roses and lovers, into a kind of unbreakable union, which seems right for your poem and for all you're conveying in the image. And the whites are like snowflakes, so it fits the season....Another passionate piece of painting, with deep energies and swirls, and with lovers at its heart. This is definitely not an alcohol ink painting, lol: It has many features from your long body of mature work, going back some time; which your alcohol ink painting does too, but in a much different way. And posting it right after some of your alcohol ink pieces, we get to see the very wide range of your style. They're all "you," carol, but they really do speak in different ways. Beautiful portrait, with your usual sensual lines and hues and energies. It's great to see so much art from you, these days!

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Mark. I didn't know I used 'anaphoria' in my poem, as I just let the words flow as they will, but it sounds pretty sophisticated so I'll take it. :o) My friend, Brigitte, who adores roses and ballet, inspired this art. But it was also inspired by the dance of love. Relationships have always fascinated me, my own and others, and so much of my art is a reflection of this. My intention was for the light to be eminating from the couple, from the intensity of their passion, so you are right, they made it happen. There is, as you so eloquently said, an 'unbreakable union between the roses and the lovers', as they cannot escape the ecstasy as well as agony of love. As always, your comments leave me in awe, as each one is a beautiful work of art in itself. You paint images and insights with your words that always thrill and inspire me.

Your prose goes so well with this beautiful image Carol and I love how you have combined the roses and the dancing for this super image. Excellent work. 😄
