Description

We spent a lot of time driving through Havana neighborhoods and observing the life of the city. Here is one with a bit of post work.

Super capture!!! Great contrast between the two on the balcony in conversation and the one below by herself!

Mark, this is one of the best street shots I’ve seen in a long time---real hard core street photography. Your bit of post work is exquisite, in that you didn’t interfere with the power of the image but rather brought it out; and you didn’t lose a bit of the wonderful grit, wear and tear, immediacy, and human power of the image. The building is captured with wonderful detail, the kind of grit and realness that makes great street shooting so revealing. With all that flat beige, you got so much of the hues of decay and rain and soot that gives a facade age and experience. Your angle says (as all such angles say) that we shouldn’t see just the ‘box’ of a facade, but break through that wall and see the real life. And your image goes down---as other of your images have---to that great detailed cobblestone road. And the old plants and planters. And there are the air conditioners. And that gritty door---this is first rate work. Then the people---spread out, as we are in life, but connected. The two women on the balcony aren’t about models or showing off the “sophistication” of a great city---pfffft: They’re about the real inner life of a great city. These two women look like they’ve lived deeply, and you caught that in their details as well as their demeanors. I hope everyone zooms all the way---all the clicks---because only then do we see the care you showed in these women---even down to their pants. And the woman on the bottom: Journalists wait forever for moments like this: She stands there like a mountain, she communicates “i’m not moving,” and she isn’t bothering to look at you, but rather is lost in her own world, and unbendingly so; surrounded by the deep darkness of that chasm behind her. That’s all---3 women and that amazing facade. First rate work. I only had time for one comment tonight, but I couldn’t end the night without commenting on this. This proves, again, that your gallery is about the images as much as your wholly captivating narratives, anecdotes, and your always insightful, human observations. You’re a helluva photographer, and this shot proves it to the tee.

Absolutely magnificent street scene! Wow! It's almost like a painting, and it's so perfect I couldn't imagine anything better in any way! Kudos!!!

Absolutely outstanding, and very enjoyable! It has shades of the watercolours that wealthy Englishmen used to bring back from the Grand Tour. It is masterful demonstration of how to make an illustration full of multiple interpretations. I really love this!

Une scène de rue où allié avec ces personnages vous avez réussi à capter et rendre l'atmosphère du lieu. Excellent

It's natural and not posed as a normal photo would be. Love the old cobblestone roads...and the filter you used for the photo as well.

Havana has always been a dream of mine. I hope you show us a few old cars. The so well maintained and patched are because the spare parts missing but to make a life anyway possible. It is right to go off the Beaten track. You're not a Greenhorn smile A wonderful Street scene. Although the houses are old, they are well maintained (although only few resources are available). I have seen in Berlin or also in US worse districts. And the scene exudes calm. A chillout lounge. No baiting and constant unrest that have the people in big cities. A fine machining. Lightweight HDR (Attic filters?), So the details of the backgrounds are emphasized and well sharpened. Class image, Mark !!!

I do like the story you telling us here: 'life as it is' - down to earth/the salt of the earth/real human beings in all it's simplicity ... and not without a cigarette in her hand ! ;) (top right), one can almost tell, what they are talking about, that is real photographers instinct to catch a sliver of a moment in time.

Cheers BB

I'm sorry to comment on something so far back in your gallery ... I hate getting a comment notification on something older and finding someone has said, "great shot!" when I went through all the trouble to look. :P But this is SO good I had to mention it. Sometimes people just going about their day is such a familiar thing to see that there seems to be a connection made. I can easily imagine being any one of these three women, just waiting, talking, killing time. Perhaps that's the attraction of street photography. In any event ... this is a fine shot, and totally worthy of mention.
