Wow Carol these look amazing and that alcohol ink makes a great texture for the balloons. Very beautiful work and I love the little rainbow chaser.

So nice to hear from you, Nancy, and thanks for your very delightful comment. I'm so glad you are enjoying my alcohol ink work.

(isn't it nice to comment under Nancy? It's so nice to see her back here!) Well I was going to complete my comment on the last image, but since I still don't have all the words yet, I'll do this image tonight, and come back for the rest this coming week. Which is not to say that this image is a big nothing, so I can write about it in 2 seconds, lol: No! But it's simpler than the previous ones, that's what I meant. So let me do this now, and do the others soon.
This is one of your more painterly images, with real painterly work everywhere. The balloons are beset with thick strokes that have oil feeling and watercolor feeling. (Maybe gouache.) And you have forms that have cropped up all over your alcohol-based ink-work. But these forms are broader and less "packed in" than the others: They're more open, more childlike, because less intense. And you've created balloons that are part rounded glass, part colored marbles, part---I don't know, I've run out of stone and mineral terms (!), but these are definitely gorgeous polished minerals and stones. And they float, even though they're very formidable and heavy. Floating jeweled boulders! And you have more balloons behind---these bring to mind your chakric pieces, because you seem to use similar colors here, ie, deep, saturated, bold and very bright. But here they're more opaque, more in our faces. I love the boldness of them. The background balloons almost spread out to cover the whole background, in spots. And the rest of the background is one of your undulating skies, with beautiful bands of translucent hues, rushing upwards. And the ground is also real Carol tuff: Hills and grounds of yellows and greens, and luminous dark oranges above. With a dark passionate ground on the bottom. I know this is a sky, but even with skies you create 'grounds', inner grounds that is, psychological grounds, whatever you want to call them. (Spiritual grounds.)
And the chaser? As you say, he's made of 'wisps'. A whole array of colored wisps! Lovely single stroke wisps, with that bright blue oval for a head---Miro and others would feel right at home here. With just enough strokes to suggest running and joy. What a piece of intuition this is, with the ballon strings in the same bold saturations as the hues. This is beautiful and childlike, and filled with your way with everything, and light and playful, letting those alcohol inks slide you all over the place, while you shape the journey to your vision along the way. I know you're letting them speak to you, but we can also see the wise knowing eye in you always taking what they give you and making it your own. And I love the poem, the rhyme scheme, and the "Ogden Nash" type of short wit. It's perfect for this piece. Wonderful and playful, and childlike; and the colors are to die for. A wonderful piece for the season---hey, balloons in these hues? They fit the Christmas/New Year season as well as anything. Wonderful!

Thanks for your delightful and detailed comment, Mark. Every time I create with alcohol inks, they take me in a different direction. It is quite an adventure. 'Floating jeweled boulders'. That one made me laugh. They do indeed look like that and overwhelm the image. I'm still trying to figure out the technique for a more translucent, non-boulder effect, but I may be in the boulder stage for a while. And so glad you enjoyed my whimsical poem. Your reference to Ogden Nash was a nice compliment as I've always enjoyed his poems. Once again you amaze me with your words and I appreciate the time to spend looking at my art and offering your impressions.
