Description
You will find sculptures of José Julián Martí Pérez all over Cuba. Along with Che Guevara, he is the most beloved figure in Cuban history. He spent much of his short life traveling extensively in Europe and the United States pleading the cause of Cuban independence and is often referred to as the "Apostle of Cuban Independence."
Martí is considered one of the great turn-of-the-century Latin American intellectuals. He was a poet, an essayist, a journalist, a revolutionary philosopher, a translator, a professor, a publisher, and a political theorist. And in the end he was a soldier, dying at age forty-two at the battle of Dos Rios. Herre he is holding his young son Pepito and pointing the way to the future (very revolutionary).

A terrific photo! I love the drama of the pose and the elegance of the figure. The dynamism really speaks of the energy of the man you describe so eloquently.

Amazing Work,

A quietly wonderful capture. You caught him on an angle that shows his multi-dimensional nature (he faces one way, he points to a future, his child faces another way, perhaps to show where they came from)...and you caught him in a fine angle against those buildings: He's at a 'corner' in your shot, looking forward...And, I don't know if you intended the curtains/fabric around 2 edges, but they give us the feeling that we're peeking into this man's world...like someone drew back the curtains to show us this man and his history. (And yes, the statue is very revolutionary, the way revolutionary sculptors had their heroes/heroines face the future, showing heroism against the odds, always striving...) Really fine work, and the light on him (ala Andrea) is really dramatic. You have the eye, you've definitely got the eye...

very impressive statue and capture not to mention a brief history of the man

I know it's just that we're in the moment, but it just doesn't seem like we have the same caliber of individuals around today, that we lack the strength of vision that some of these historical figures seemed to have. I hope I'm just not seeing it from far enough back to have a good view. Superb capture of this monument!
