Description

The Mariahilf monastery in Passau. From the official website of the monastery: "The complex is not extensive, nor does it boast any magnificent architecture but it is a compact group of buildings that cleverly exploits its hilltop position. This makes Mariahilf an aesthetically pleasing place of pilgrimage which most pilgrims approach via the pilgrimage steps. This “heavenly ladder” (321 steps) is a covered staircase leading from the Passau Innstadt to the top of the hill. lol, Andrea. Your hues in this piece are even more from a fairy tale book, the deep blue-greens are beautiful contrast to the deep reds, yellows, and whites. And the background seems hazed over by a blue tinged mist. While the mid-ground is graced by patches of beautiful orange-yellows. And the city portion lights up the shot. Another 3-layered shot, like a visual pastry. And the info on the monastery is fascinating: Why did they enclose the stairs? I guess to protect the monks from weather, but it seems unusual. It's the least interesting architecture in the shot, I think---at least from this vantage point---but its layered facades do fit in with the whole landscape; and it makes a perfect center for your shot. More story-book work from you, Claude.
