Description

To the groups dismay, Crete decided to head out into the darkness in search of a mysterious predator he believes to be stalking us. That in itself would have been bad enough, but the fact that Crete is as good as blind in the darkness proves just how reckless he really is. That's where I stepped in, being half elf allows me the advantage of seeing in the dark as naturally as humans do in broad day light. I'm not completely sure I believe Crete when he says he can't see in the dark. He and his brothers are all that's left of an extinct strain of humans called Gray Humans. Like the name states, they have gray skin and even more impressive are their glowing red eyes. Except for Grys that is, he's an albino with skin as white as mine, and though his eyes do glow white, they are no where near as noticeable as their Crimson counter parts. I just can't see how eyes that glow as theirs do would not be able to see in darkness. The Broken Arrow himself verified that they are not demons, but he didn't say they were not of demon lineage. Gray Humans could very well have been descendants of demons, but with the race all but extinct now I guess we will never know for sure. Something stirs in the darkness and Tate's acute hearing catches it causing him to stop. "What was that? Did you feel that?" Asks Tate in no more than a whisper. Crete having felt nothing glances around. "Feel what?" Something very large lunges at them from the shadows causing them to take a couple steps back. Tate's brain takes a second to register what his eyes are seeing, but before he can say anything Crete comments first. "It's a dragon, isn't it? Just like the red head said." Is that excitement in his voice? Wonders Tate. "No, it's a wyvern!" He replies. "A wyvern? Isn't that just a small dragon?" Asks Crete. "What's the difference?" Are we really having this conversation now? Thinks Tate. "A dragon has four legs, a wyvern only has two." Replies Tate. "But both are similar enough that most people don't bother differentiating between them." "Okay, so not a dragon. What we have is an over grown lizard!" Shouts Crete. The wyvern roars deafeningly, almost like it understood Crete, but that would be impossible, wouldn't it? Considers Tate as the creature advances on them. "Crete!" Shouts Tate. "We have to flee. We can't do this, not alone, not in the dark." But Tate's words seem to fall upon def ears, he watches in disbelief as Crete charges the mighty creature. Don't get me wrong, Crete is a large and powerful man carrying artifacts of legend, but even with that being said...who in their right mind charges a creature this powerful? Up close its scales look impenetrable, it claws and teeth are razor sharp and it can probably breath fire. That's not even taking into consideration that it's probably over twenty feet tall and built of solid muscle. When the dragon realizes it is being rushed by Crete it momentarily freezes from disbelief, however it quickly recollects itself. It inhales deeply and gazes back down towards Crete, fire now gleaming within its giant eyes. When it re- opens it jaw, Tate see's the fire with in expel in a mighty flame and It hurtles towards them. Tate rapidly drops to a knee, twisting his body trying desperately to avoid the worst of the flame. He expects to hear Crete scream in agony, but to his surprise there is only silence. Sure to be consumed by dragon fire Tate waits for certain death, but again nothing happens. He spins back towards Crete in confusion and can't believe what he sees. The beasts flame is pounding down on Crete relentlessly, yet somehow it curls around him and dissipates. The flame should be reducing him to ash, how is bare skin is not liquefying? Crete stands firm and never wavers, in this moment Tate considers that this mountain of a man could very well be more terrifying than the wyvern itself! "Aarrrhh!" Shouts Crete as he thunders his hammers into the calf of the creature. To Tate's surprise, the blow seems to effect the wyvern. It roars in pain while stepping back. if Crete can hurt it, Maybe we stand a chance after all. Thinks Tate. He pulls his sword which has been permanently charged from his ability, Tate has the ability to charge objects making them more dense, more durable. He did that to Hayden's hammers back in the tomb when they were fleeing from the goblins, unfortunately she became over confident and it almost cost her her life. Tate's sword has been charged so many times over the years it now permanently retains the charge, the only difference is that it no longer glows blue like a freshly charged item would. "Keep it busy." Shouts Tate. "I will try to get behind it." Again Crete's hammers land a mighty blow and the creature roars in rage. "I expected dragons to be bigger." Yells Crete in excitement. Is he kidding? Thinks Tate. "Like I said, it's not a dragon, it's a wyvern." Yells Tate. "Dragons ARE bigger!" Having managed to successfully slip behind the creature, Tate slashes at the beasts ankle, his blade goes in deep and smooth and again the creature roars in agony. Tate's attack is then quickly followed up by Crete who has now struck the creatures knee, as his hammer collides Tate hears its bone pop and the giant creature wobbles. Unfortunately, while Tate concentrates on the damage being inflicted by Crete, he fails to notice the massive tail swing around and slam into him. He hears bones break as everything goes black...

Excellent. You open with tension, as they move out into the dark to search. The scene rises in climax as they discover the beast and make battle, then you leave us on a real cliff-hanger as Tate is injured and falls unconscious. You have an wonderful sense of pacing and rhythm to the piece. Well done.
