Description
That’s what he called himself.
We met this colorful character after visiting the art gallery/hair salon. With our guide Jorge translating, the Colonel told us about his life and adventures. He was ninety-four years of age and as a young man he had joined the merchant marine and sailed all over the world with a girl in every port, of course. Eventually he came back to Havana, settled down and fathered nine children with, I’m guessing, his exhausted wife. He had also fought in the revolution although on which side he did not say.
So enchanting was this gentleman that I missed another photo opportunity. While he spoke his companion sat in the shade nearby smiling, laughing and shaking his head. His expression clearly seemed to say, “Oh, my friend, you are so full of crap!”

People are people all over the world! Imagine going to Cuba and running into an old guy who is full of crap. LOL! The question isn't "what are the odds?," but "How could you not?"

terrific narrative, all the right facts and observations. A delight. And I looked for that companion too...Your photos capture your narrative spot-on, and the way you describe his character. He's bold, looking into his past, shows his age with boldness, and---in the right-side photo---he juts forward, putting his head and chest forward as if to show his whole way of living...you chose just the right pose to illustrate your narrative. and you captured, in two shots, the essence of what you said about him. Love that holey t-shirt, and the forwardness with which he wears it....Merchant Marine to the core: The few MMarines I've known personally spoke just like this guy, looked like this guy, and you'd get the sense they'd walk into a hurricane face-first, figuring it'd get out of their way for just a glance. And their stories were peppered with expressions that make even me blush: I'd repeat them, but I could get thrown off the site. Terrific addition to this series, Mark.

Excellent captures Mark. I think there is one of that kind in every town. But I must admit is very, very interesting listen to them.
