Description

This dining facility is on Warren AFB. An Omelette with everything, a large glass of Orange juice that looked and tasted like fresh squeezed, a Cappuccino (yep) and a large Banana cost $6. Things sure have changed since I was on active duty in the 60s. Dining facilities were called chow halls, and we ate what was served, usually hash browns and eggs or SOS (s..t on a shingle), which I hated. Later, In Southeast Asia we ate out of mess kits, freeze dried hash browns, fake eggs, cool aid, and fake milk, or C rations. But that was when there was a draft on and the military didn't need any incentives to fill their quota. This picture was taken on 10 August 2015, Sig..

Great capture, Sig!

The MRE's that are for the field have changed immensely - almost restaurant quality food. they definitely put the C-rats to shame

I joined in 1974, called them mess halls. The food on submarines was pretty good, though eggs start to turn green after a month or so at sea. They didn't start having you pay outside the Air Force until after I retired in the 90s.

Hey ! It looks like a restaurant ! Difficult to believe you are in the army there :-) My husband was in the Navy and he ate very good plates, even crab on New Year's evening ! But now, it's far far away back in time ;-)
