It is an insect, six legs like you counted the image before. Popular name is Assassin Bug, or Wheel bug. (Arilus cristatus) Use caution, as they can be aggressive with their pin-sharp proboscis. These things are like the bald eagles of the birds. Or the Lions of the cats. They are on the top of the insect food chain and their presence indicates a healthy environment. (though it can be much healthier than it is!!)
