Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I usually have no idea what the mushroom names are but I love to see them. This one has the most wonderful hint of purple. Very beautiful.

Wonderful! It's bitterly cold here, but there are still mushrooms around, surprisingly...

another great description from Mark. Its' so flat and pancake-y, and so fungus-y. Fine shot of this always strange member of the biosphere. And the surrounding makes a wonderful melange, esp with those bright lit green leaves. Looks like a salad...
You know the old joke about the mushroom in a bar? (You know it's gonna be awful with an intro like that...) A mushroom goes to a bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says, "we don't serve mushrooms." The mushroom says, "I'm not a mushroom!" The bartender says, "yes you are!" And the mushroom says: "Nope. I"m a fun guy...." (fungi??? I told you it was stupid...) There's one more in that vein, though not about fungi. A rope goes to a bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says, "we don't serve ropes." The rope says, "I want a DRINK!" And the bartender says, "Sir? Read my lips: We don't serve ropes!" So the rope jumps off the stool and bangs himself on the bar 100 times. When he's done---everyone in the bar gasping in shock---he says, "now serve me a drink!" The bartender says, "we don't serve ropes, and you're a rope!" And the rope says: "Nope---I'm a frayed knot!" ("I'm afraid not"???? Ok that's your joke quotient for today...)
