Description
"This is the route." JS said giving the coordinates of the planet to calculate the hyperspace jumps.
"Impossible! There's nothing over there!" Roma exclaimed.
"Also the Rasharr maps don't make reference to any planet in the Snake Nebula. Grus 21, where we went to ask for their support for my cause, is in the Grus sector." Maur added.
"Grus 21 isn't the Grays' native planet," JS said. "That's the planet for business and foreigners. The native planet, where the 104s do meet, is in the Snake Nebula. No foreigner can go there."
"But you had been there, right?" Flotsam asked.
JS nodded. "I was born there. I was conceived in the original Body Bank and I have Gray DNA."
Everyone looked at him in disbelief, having seen the Body Bank ship, they found it hard to believe that JS had managed not only to survive, but also to escape from that horror.
"Do they detain Eve over there?"
"No, after the arson of the original Body Bank, they moved it to another planet. I don't know where it is but they'll tell me it." JS's tone was rough and hard.
"How did it catch fire, and why did they move it?" Jetsam asked.
"I torched it, the night I escaped. The fire was spreading to the temple where they keep their prophet, G-0, in cryostasis. That's why they transferred bank and foreigners abroad."
"Prophet G-0, never heard of." Maurr looked around and everyone shook their heads.
"No one knows anything about the Grays apart JS it seems." S-Anita chimed in.
"G-0 founded the Gray culture and established the power of 104s." JS replied.
"We have time before arriving at our destination. Tell us about the Grays, Jay." Etta suggested.
JS sighed. "The Grays evolved in the underground caves of their homeland planet, as the Nebula radiation made hard to live on the surface. For thousands of years they evolved scrounging their food up. They prospered and multiplied, discovered space travel, took specimens, but soon they realized no outer world was suitable for a Gray colonization. Then a harsh climate change began. It's usual in the life of a planet: to maintain the solar system in a balance, the Sun moves away from the barycentre of the planetary system in the opposite direction of the big gaseous planets. In those days the sun just wobbled more to balance the gravitational pull of the alignment of two big gaseous planets. The Gray aristocratic elite in crisis blamed industry and greedy scientists, and began to propose a return to nature. But their ruralist ideology clashed with the number of their inhabitants. A traditionalist and anti-science religious leader, that is G-0, proposed a traditional recipe: population control by means of the cull of female children and death of young adult males in war. Those who did not believe in the climate change was considered heretical and killed. His message took hold among the aristocracy. Soon their armies conquered the planet and the 104s law was enforced by using the food weapon, this way the lower classes were sterilized using State food-stamps. G-0 teachings said they should rebuild the Gray Perfect Race that once lived on the planet, when it was benevolent and everything was natural. To those elected few he guaranteed an immortal life. Later the Gray decided G-0 was referring to the mythical Gray race who lived at the beginning of the time and from which all races in the Galaxy had been created, so they built the Body Bank and started their quest for the immortality."
"Actually by engineering their DNA for thousands of years, they're now at a point of no return. The Grays are very forward into the path to extinction." Lee stepped in.
"That's why they're spawning hybrid chimeras. They want to create the perfect Gray in which transplant their souls and become immortal."
"Action stations!" the ships jumped out of hyperspace.
Gray flying saucers engaged them furiously and the battle began.
