Description

"I realize that!" Shouts Crete. "But as we have told you repeatedly, their is NO way we can can descend in after Tate. It can't be done, not in the dark." Hayden's hands curl into fists and she feels her teeth begin grinding together. To everyone's astonishment she takes a step toward Crete instead of away from him as she normal does when he begins raising his voice. Her head only comes up to Crete's collar bone making her look small and underwhelming beneath his hulking mass, but she doesn't care. "It's YOUR fault he's down there!" She yells. "You insisted on heading out into the dark, he was out there because of you." Crete looks directly down into Hayden's brilliant green eyes, and though her words pierce his heart directly he refuses to let her see that he does indeed feel responsible. "You need to step back." He tells her calmly. "Or what?"she asks furiously. Just then Hades slides between them preventing the tension from boiling over into unwanted violence. He then turns to face Hayden. "I know the frustration you must be feeling, but provoking my brother is not the answer. We need to search the area, their must be another way to get down there. Whatever these ruins were, chances are they had dungeons or lower levels. I need your help to save Tate and to do that we cannot be fighting among ourselves. Are you with me?" He asks. She looks Hades up and down with eyes like glimmering daggers, but hesitantly and with a voice as firm as iron she replies. "Yes." "Good." Says Hades. "Splitting up would save us time, but since I'm the only one with a way to light our surroundings we need to stick together." Hayden then nearly jumps out of her clothes as someone places a hand gently on her back. "Apologies, I didn't mean to startle you." Says Grys pointing to a tall structure in the distance, It's silhouette highlighted by the faint glow of the moon." Hayden follows the direction of Grys finger, buts it's Hades who replies. "You see something brother?" "Possibly. That might be the remnants of a tower over there." Replies Grys. "Might be a good place to check out." "I agree." Says Hades. "We need to move quickly, their is still several hours before sunrise and it will be in Tate's best interest if we find him before then." Hades holds his flaming swords out before him, illuminating a small area around him. The flames though small are magical giving off more light than a normal flame twice its size could. He begins moving towards the tower in the distance with the others following closely behind. "I really miss my hammers." Whispers Hayden to herself, but Grys standing just behind her over hears. "I never saw your hammers, were they magical?" Asks Grys. "No." Replies Hayden. "They were just what I had, they were something to hold onto at times like this. I feel helpless without them, if something were to jump us right now I would be useless." "I understand." Says Grys. "But why hammers? I don't understand." Hayden glances up at Grys, he can see the confusion on her face. "What do you mean?" She asks. "Hammers are heavy, solid. They are typically wielded by strong individuals like my brother, large creatures like ogres, orcs and other creatures like that. I can't see a petite woman of your build wielding hammers." He says. Hayden thinks about that before answering. "They were heavy, but not unusable." She says. "They were just what I had access to at the time, the truth is I don't really have any training with any specific weapon type." It's Grys who now looks upon her questioningly. "Your running from something." He says quietly. Hayden's eyes widen and her lips part for just a second before regaining her composure. "I have a question for you." She says quickly trying to change the subject. This doesn't go unnoticed by Grys. "I'm listening." He says. Hayden hesitates, trying to get her words just right. "You and your brothers were awoken after countless generations, you all claim to have no memories yet you seem to know an awful lot." She says. "What do you mean?" Asks Grys curiously. She bites at her lower lip before replying. "You said ogres and orcs typically wield hammers, how do you know that if you can't remember anything? How do you know what an ogre even is for that matter?" She asks. "Oh, okay." Replies Grys. "I see what your asking. When we say we have no memories, we mean in regards to our selves and each other. I can't remember anything of who I was, but I know how to speak, I know what an ogre is. Does that make sense?" "Not really." Admits Hayden. "I didn't think memory loss worked that way." "It probably doesn't under normal circumstances." Replies Grys. "But then, what about us is normal? Have you really never heard of Gray Humans before?" Hayden shakes her head almost sympathetically. "No, nothing, not so much as even a rumor." "Hmmm, that's disturbing." Is all Grys says as though he's suddenly consumed with deep thought. As Hayden begins to ask another question she's interrupted by Hades yelling back from up ahead. "Over here, hurry!" His voice rich with excitement. We move up to him as quick as we can, Upon reaching him it quickly becomes evident what has him so excited, through the broken tower wall lies a set of stairs leading down. As Hades foot touches the first step, torches on the walls ignite illuminating the stair passage. He moves half way down the stairs before turning back reaching his hand out to Hayden. "Stay close my sweet, I do not wish to endure Tate's wrath should your pretty little self come to any harm while under my watch." Hayden with her two minions by her side begin down the stairs leaving Crete and Grys standing in the entry way, she looks frightened. "What's wrong?" Asks Hades genuinely concerned. Hayden takes a deep breath and let's it out slowly before replying. "It's just the thought of going down into another dungeon, and this time I'm weapon less." Hades gives her a lopsided grin that makes her heart begin to flutter, he then grabs her hand gently raising it to his lips, kissing her hand ever so softly. This makes Hayden go weak in the knees and she loses her senses momentarily forgetting where she is and what is going on around her. She finds his touch to be intoxicating, it's unnatural, but more importantly it's wrong! She pulls her hand free from his grip wondering if he isn't part incubus, he shouldn't have that kind of allure over her. Why else would she be so attracted to him, she love Tate after all...doesn't she? "This time will be different." Says Hades snapping her back to the present while noticing her flushed cheeks and wobbly stance. "This time you have us." Hayden gives him a half hearted smile because she doesn't hear him say "This time you have us." What she hears is "This time you have me!"

A bit of tension in the group, and some character development for Hayden. Well done.
