Description
Nadine decided to run. She had no choice. He’d have killed her, one way or another, eventually, he would have killed her. Tired of the brow beating, the belittling, the hitting, she ran to the only place she thought he’d never find her. That was six months ago and she had been hiding out, alone, afraid; planning for her new life, with a new name.
This section of Utah is remote, and quiet. The cabin of an old friend her husband never knew, and of whom she never spoke, miles outside the tiny mountain resort town of Brian Head, was her hiding place. She’d been keeping to herself, only going into town when necessary for supplies, using cash – cash that was starting to run low, especially since she’d paid so much to the man who is supposed to get her her new documents; even he did not know where she was staying. But she had not gone unnoticed. How could an attractive young woman go unnoticed in a place like this? Being seen by the locals should have been no problem, not as far as word getting back to the bastard she’d called her husband for ten years, since she was married too young at seventeen. She had been sitting quietly in front of the fire when thoughts of every move she’d made, every person she’d seen, began running through her head as she tried to convince herself that she was safe here. If she’d made no mistakes, then who is knocking on her door on this cold winter’s night? Should she answer it, or remain quiet and hope they went away? She had not yet decided, but she did prepare herself for the worst.
