Description
Finished in Photoshop because all my oil paintings were ruined from poor storage. Some were hit by a flood.
I sharpened and cleaned this in PS; but the original is still mostly what you see.
A spring sunrise, based on Stravinsky's ballet-score, "The Rite of Spring" (Le Sacre du printemps).
1980s.

I've gotten to nearly all of you now: I'll finish the last few tomorrow.
Have a fine week, everyone!

beautiful layers of color. reds and pinks so Spring-like and fragile. I really like how the colors mix and blend but yet stay strong and separate at the same time. this is beautiful work, Mark!

Fabulous work Mark! Sorry to hear about the damage but it looks like you've a handle on how to make the paintings look great like the originals!
this is a wonderful example
I look forward to seeing more of your earlier work

As you know, Mark, I'm generally not a fan of abstract expressionism & this seems to fit within that genre. But I don't have an absolute rule about it & I really like the joyful feeling this conveys & your vivid, energetic color palette. Thanks for sharing some of your early work...

A wonderful layered look superbly carried off. This has visual and tactile interest. I can imagine feeling the raised surfaces on this if I were to see it in person.

This is very cool. Who knows, it could end up being found one day and sell for 80 million. It has an interesting balance to the piece.

Reminds me of the sunsets that can be seen along the Tiber in Rome in October, with the dying sunlight which is reflected in the old River with all shades of red . Stunning realization anahata, c!

A very lovely abstract painting, Mark, with wonderful colors and movement. It does feel like Spring, with the flow of warm colors rushing down like a Spring thaw. And the vibrant pinks and reds, and glowing sun, are a welcome sight after the winter whites. I see people dancing or moving with great energy and spirit in the center. So interesting this was inspired by Stravinsky's 'The Rite Of Spring'. A very passionate work.

I think whatever the flood did to the painting was meant to be; it works so well on so many levels! Absolutely breathtakingly marvelous work. Why you aren't a famous painter is beyond my ken...

Oo! I love it!

You have painted a very beautiful abstract sunrise here with fabulous colors and texture. What a great way to start a day. We could do with one of these sunrises at the moment as we are now on out fifth day of rain and it is meant to be the middle of summer. What a shame that your beautiful paintings were damaged in a flood it must have been so heartbreaking.

This is AWESOME!! I love the vibrant colors.

Pardon my macabre observations, Mark, but what I see is what a severely wounded sailor during wartime - or a fisherman bitten and dragged below by a shark - would see as he looks skyward in shock as he sinks below the waves: the sun, and much of his blood in various stages of dilution. You did a yeoman's job in renovating this old, flood-ravaged oil painting. I love the various blends of pinks, reds, magentas, etc., and the swirling liquid effects.

very good looking. here a link that may help you on the mold. I know you may have wipe them long time ago but be as it may. this may help. http://www.art-restoration.com/damage.htm
I had a painting my sister put in the garage and i find it and it was full of mold. i took it off the wood frame and used clorox and water .[weak] and brush it on with a floor brush on both sides and then washed it down. hung it up in the summer sun and let it dry. . then restretched it on new wooded frome. now the painting was acrylic paint and yours is oil so do what this link say to do. hope this will help.

Ah' Marc, j'adore ta nouvelle création, qui est vraiment magnifique!

I am sorry, Mark, that your oil paintings are damaged! I hope however, that all them are like this one! Still a wonder! I can see dancers in the center of a bold and strong shape in the painting, that, makes me think of a 'person' in movement, inclined to the left...(but this is me...lol). I love the vibrant energy of colors and tones that 'dance' between whites , pinks, reds, oranges, purples and greens...colours of the earth and the sky. There is a great movement in the lines of your painting and a feeling of LIFE! It is the vibe that a sunrise gives to our whole being in Spring- a time of renewal, when everything grows - in fact, it worths to be sacred with music and mostly a ballet that is the most delicate and vibrant dance to me. And I am one of the lucky persons! because i know ''The Rite of Spring'' played by YOU:) and i can see your vibrancy , your energy as a musician and as an artist through this image! And the joy-it is Spring:) You did a very expressive and emotional painting! Stuning Art, Mark.

This is absolutely gorgeous, Mark! The colors are so rich, and the texture is just delightful. Really sweet - and a perfect match for Stravinsky's wonderful score - I love that piece of music! I'm a big fan of classical.

I love seeing the roots of your digital painting style in this wonderful oil, Mark. There seem to be dancers embedded in the design, strokes and spots of paint that combine in a modern ballet pose. The spring colors support the feeling of new life and riotous blooms. And your orb! Already, even so many years ago, there it is, like an old friend. I'm thrilled to see so many comments, and so many meaningful comments!
Of course I would have been here sooner, but you forgot to leave the light on in the hall again, and I had to knock on somebody's door to get a glass of water. :P
