"Yalag says my training is going well but I doubt he'd think I'm ready for something like that! Who is my opponent?" "Martigan the Black. He wants a chance to get back at you." the booker said. "Him! He'll tear me to pieces!" "Don't worry about it. It's going to be a handicap match" the booker reassured her. Something inside her sensed something off with the way he told her this, but as an arena slave she was really in no position to decline a match anyhow. Still, she asked "what's the handicap?" "Being chained to a steak in the middle of the arena." He replied. So it came to pass that after the penultimate match of the day, an iron rod was screwed into the center of the arena. Then two large gladiators dragged her out to it and clamped chains on HER wrists! Just great, she said to herself. I knew it. Everything she had learned so far about fighting depended on quickness and maneuverability. Now she was denied both. Still, she braced herself as Martigan emerged forth from the tunnel and headed towards her with two weapons. The crowd yelled in anticipation of a quick and messy end to it all.
